ADR441BRZ Overview

ADR441BRZ is a high-precision, low-noise voltage reference IC from Analog Devices. It belongs to the ADR440/ADR441/ADR443/ADR444/ADR445 XFET® voltage reference family. This series uses ADI's proprietary XFET technology together with temperature curvature correction, which greatly reduces nonlinear output voltage changes over temperature, resulting in very low temperature drift and excellent long-term stability.

Compared with traditional buried Zener voltage references, the ADR441BRZ offers superior noise performance and requires only about 500 mV of supply headroom for stable operation. This makes it well suited for low-power and compact system designs. The device can source up to 10 mA of output current and sink up to 5 mA, meeting the load requirements of many precision analog circuits. In addition, it includes a trim pin that allows fine adjustment of the output voltage within approximately ±0.5% without compromising overall performance.

In terms of packaging and applications, the ADR441BRZ is available in a narrow SOIC package, making it suitable for high-density PCB layouts, and it supports an industrial operating temperature range of 40°C to +125°C. It is widely used in applications that require high voltage reference accuracy and stability.

ADR441BRZ Circuit

ADR441BRZ IC Overview: Pinout, Circuit and Applications

1. Providing a High-Precision Voltage Reference

In the upper-left of the circuit, the ADR441 is powered by a +5 V supply (VIN) and, thanks to its ultra-low-noise XFET architecture, generates a highly stable +2.5 V reference voltage. This +2.5 V is used in two key places: it biases the AD8476 differential amplifier (INN) to ensure proper signal level shifting under single-supply operation, and it also serves as the external reference (REFIN) for the AD7790 16-bit ADC, directly defining the ADC's measurement accuracy and input range.

2. Ensuring Stability Across the Entire Signal Chain

Thermocouple signals are extremely small, typically in the microvolt range, so even minor voltage fluctuations can introduce significant errors. The ADR441's +2.5 V output, together with local decoupling capacitors such as the 0.1 μF capacitor at the REFIN pin, provides a clean and stable voltage reference for the amplifier and precision ADC. This minimizes the impact of supply noise on sampling results, allowing the system to accurately capture the temperature signal processed by the AD8495 and achieve high-resolution, industrial-grade temperature measurement.
